PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reducing agent for discharging NOxfrom mixing into recirculated exhaust gas.

SOLUTION: A SOxtrap catalyst 12 and a particulate filter 13 are disposed in an engine exhaust passage, and a recirculated exhaust gas outlet port 17 is disposed to a portion downstream of a particulate filter 13 in the engine exhaust passage. NOxocclusion catalyst 15 and a reducing agent supply valve 21 are disposed to portions downstream of the recirculated exhaust gas outlet port 17 in the engine exhaust passage, so that the reducing agent is supplied from the reducing agent supply valve 21 into the exhaust passage when the NOxshould be discharged from the NOxocclusion catalyst 15.
