<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element excellent in photoelectric conversion characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: Dyes with a structural system expressed in general formula [I] are used as a photoelectric conversion material of a photoelectric conversion element. In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>denotes an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocycle substituent, R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>3</SB>, R<SB>5</SB>independently denote a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocycle substituent, R<SB>4</SB>denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, a heterocycle substituent, and a halogen atom, and R<SB>6</SB>, R<SB>7</SB>, and R<SB>8</SB>independently denote an alkyl group, an aralkyl group and an aryl group.
