PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing device adaptively emitting a photographing auxiliary light in accordance with a photographing mode. SOLUTION: A first light-emitting section 18 provided with an Xe tube and a main capacitor MC, and a second light-emitting section 16 provided with an LED 160a are provided in a digital camera 100. When detecting that a mode lever 101e is switched to a still image photographing mode and a single shot mode is designated with operations of a menu OK key 101c and a cross key 101b, a main CPU 110 instructs a photometric/ranging CPU 120 to cause the Xe tube to emit a photographing auxiliary light. Also, when detecting that a consecutive shot mode is designated or that the mode lever 101e is switched to a motion picture photographing mode, the main CPU 110 instructs the photometric/ranging CPU 120 to cause the LED 160a to emit a photographing auxiliary light.
