PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recorder wherein the recordable time of a recording medium can be immediately confirmed while its main power is still in OFF-state and which is highly convenient to users. SOLUTION: When main power is turned off or reserve recording procedure is completed, a main CPU 10 sends an information on remaining capacity of a hard disk to a sub CPU 23, and the sub CPU 23 makes a RAM 24 store the information and the main power gets into off-state. The sub CPU 23 calculates recordable time corresponding to each of recording modes on basis of the information on remaining capacity, and every time when a recoding button of an operation section 29 is pressed down, the sub CPU 23 displays characters showing the recordable time and the respective recording modes corresponding to the recording modes on a liquid crystal display part 26 in sequence.
