PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer device and a data transfer method, capable of transferring written data without delay even in the event of an underflow. SOLUTION: This data transfer device comprises a FIFO memory 110 from and to which data of a first data unit or a second data unit smaller than the first data unit is read and written in FIFO format; a pointer comparison part 180 determining whether a writing address and a reading address of the first data unit to the FIFO memory 110 are mutually matched or not; and a bite access control part 190 reading data from the FIFO memory 110 in the first data unit when mismatching is determined by the comparison part 180, and reading data from the FIFO memory 110 in the second data unit when matching is determined by the comparison part 180.
