PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for measuring the width of a furnace capable of continuously measuring furnace widths, without any restraint thereon in measurement range nor measurement time. SOLUTION: The device for measuring the width of a furnace has a sensor unit SU integrally comprising: laser type displacement sensors 16, 17 containing a light emitting element and a light receiving element in its outer package; a plurality of plate-like Peltier elements 20a-20d which surround the outer package and are arranged such that each heat-sink surface side of them faces the outer package; aluminum blocks 18, 19 with which a gap between the outer package and the heat-sink surface is filled; and a group of cooling fins 21a-21d arranged on the heat-dissipation surface side of the Peltier elements. The sensor unit is contained in a housing 13 which is equipped with: an introducing section of a cooling-use air; an exhausting section for exhausting the cooling-use air applied for cooling; and measurement windows 26, 28 through which laser light passes.
