The actuator has a housing (1) including a hollow space (3), where a piston (2) is slidably supported in the space. An igniter (6) includes a gas outlet that is connected with the space such that the piston is moved by an amount of gas from a starting position into an end position. A piston rod (7) connected with the piston protrudes from the housing in the starting position and is shifted back to the housing in the end position. A channel (8) conducts the amount of gas to a side of the piston during the ignition of the igniter, where the rod is extended from a side of the piston.
