The device has a database (36) for storing a number of characteristics of system components. A memory (38) with a program is provided to assign modernization components of a given system under a parameter of system components that are to be replaced and under applications of control. The modernization components fulfill a performance of the system components. Information is assigned to the system components in a hierarchy of the system and to functional characteristics. The program is provided to allocate the system components for replacing against the replaced system components. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating information for modernizing a system.
