PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering shaft free to be telescoped and with small play in the rotating direction. SOLUTION: An inner shaft 2 and an outer shaft 3 inserted into the inner shaft 2 are provided, three sets of rolling surfaces (4b, 5b)(4d, 5d) and (4f, 5f) which are combinations of the rolling surfaces in parallel with one another are provided in the circumferential direction on the opposed surface of the inner shaft 2 and the outer shaft 3, a plurality of needle rollers 11 are interposed between the rolling surfaces to be set in pairs, respectively, a taper space is formed by cutting out the inner shaft 2 as a taper mechanism on a set of the rolling surfaces (4d, 5d), a taper slider 7 having a taper surface 7d is provided in the taper space free to slide, a spring 10 to energize the taper slider 7 toward the taper space is provided, and two lines of projected parts 7h to absorb impacts as pressurized to a taper surface 104d are formed on the movable taper surface 7d of the taper slider 7.
