PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device capable of reducing steering noise (rattling noise) caused by a reversed input from a tire. SOLUTION: This electric power steering device is constituted to drive and control a motor 4 for steering assistance installed on a steering mechanism by a driving circuit 3 so as to add an assisting force in correspondence with the direction and size of computed torque to the steering mechanism by detecting rotating angles of a steering shaft (not shown in the drawing) to connect a steering member (not shown in the drawing) of a vehicle and the steering mechanism (not shown in the drawing) on the wheel side at a different position in the shaft longitudinal direction and computing the torque added to the steering shaft on the basis of a difference between the detected rotating angles. The device is also provided with a means 2 to determine whether the computed torque is by an input from the steering member side or by an input from the steering mechanism side and cutting means 6, 6a and 6b to cut the motor 4 and the driving circuit 3 for a specified period of time when the means 2 determines that the computed torque is by the input from the steering mechanism side.
