The method involves acquiring a two dimensional cut view (4) of a hollow channel of an examination area e.g. vessel (2), under simultaneous fluoroscopy of the area, with a catheter (1). A position of the catheter in a fluoroscopy image of the area is determined using an image processing algorithm. The position of the catheter is stored together with the cut view of the channel in an image database.
