The regulator (4) has a determining module to determine flow acquisition data based on different pump- and motor parameters such as number of revolutions, torque and efficiency, from calibrated flow curves stored in an evaluation device or an external flow acquisition device e.g. flow meter. A regulating module regulates a pump (8), a rotary axial blower, a rotary mixer or a radial compressor in a valve system with proportional-integral-derivative (PID) regulation by using the flow acquisition data. An independent claim is also included for a method of optimization of a valve position and a pump rotation speed in a valve system.
