<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device enhanced in contrast ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a layer including a display element which is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, and stacked polarizers on an outer side of the first substrate or the second substrate. The stacked polarizers are arranged so as to have respective absorption axes being in parallel Nicols. The respective stacked polarizers have the same extinction coefficients, and wavelength distributions of the respective extinction coefficients of the stacked polarizers may be identical to each other. Further, a retardation plate may be provided between the stacked polarizers and the first substrate or the second substrate. The stacked polarizers are provided for both of the first substrate and the second substrate, and the stacked polarizers on the outer side of the first substrate and the stacked polarizers on the outer side of the second substrate may be arranged so as to have their absorption axes be in crossed Nicols or parallel Nicols. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
