PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL display device capable of suppressing degradation of contrast in use in a bright place. SOLUTION: This electroluminescence display device is provided with: luminescent elements 114 each comprising a pixel electrode 200 made of a transparent conductive material, a negative electrode 316 made of a transparent conductive material, and a functional layer 314 including at least an electroluminescence layer sandwiched between the pixel electrode 200 and the negative electrode 316; a light absorbing insulation film 309 formed in a lower layer of the pixel electrode 200 for absorbing at least light in a visible range; TFTs for controlling light emission quantities of the individual luminescent elements 114; and a filter 328 having at least absorbency in a wavelength range corresponding to excitation light of a fluorescent or phosphorescent substance used for the luminescent elements 114.
