PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of an optical disk device and to improve operability of a user. SOLUTION: A host device 1 detects the insertion and eject of an optical disk on the basis of signals from a detection switch 16. Power is supplied to the optical disk device 10 when the optical disk is inserted, and power supply is maintained for a fixed time and the power supply is stopped thereafter when the eject is detected. Even when a user inserts the optical disk again within the fixed time, initialization is not needed since the power supply is maintained, and the optical disk is driven quickly.
