PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the increased gain and wide bandwidth of an optical parametric amplifier. SOLUTION: An optical parametric amplifier is provided with a nonlinear amplifier part, to which signal light S and pump light P are made incident via a multiplexer 5, and the nonlinear amplifier part is composed of a plurality of polarization maintaining high nonlinear optical fibers (HNLF) 6-1 to 6-n, having different zero dispersion wavelengths and different dispersion slopes, with the polarization maintaining high nonlinear optical fibers being connected in multiple stages. The zero dispersion wavelength of the HNLF each exists closer to shorter wavelength side than on the pumping light wavelength, and the zero dispersion wavelength becomes shorter as the HNLF becomes nearer to the output side. The dispersion slope of each HNLFs is set so that it becomes steeper, as the HNLF becomes nearer to the output side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
