PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct injection type engine capable of cooling a tip part of a direct injector sufficiently. SOLUTION: This direct injection type engine is provided with a cylinder block 5 having a cooling water passage 9 in which cooling water is supplied from a radiator side and a cylinder head 1 having a main cooling water passage 12. The direct injector 14 is provided in a section sandwiched by an intake port in the cylinder head 1 and the cylinder block 5 when viewed from the direction of axial line of a crank shaft. An auxiliary cooling water passage 42 crossing the injector 14 is formed on a cylinder block 5 side more than the injector 14 (an injector hole 25) in the cylinder head 1. A one end part of the auxiliary cooling water passage 42 is partitioned from the main cooling water passage 12 by a bulkhead 43 and is connected with the cooling water passage 9 in the cylinder block 5 through an auxiliary communicating hole 40.
