PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new mechanism of action imparting resistance to ultraviolet rays, especially to ultraviolet rays in B region; and to provide a plant manifesting resistance to the ultraviolet rays, especially to the ultraviolet rays in B region with a new mechanism of action. SOLUTION: The inventors identified a uvi4 (UV-B insensitive 4) gene and analyzed the character in a new variant plant of Arabidopsis resistant to ultraviolet rays B region (UV-B), and found out that a plant with deleted UVI4 protein function has a high resistance to UV-B rays by a completely unknown acting mechanism.
