PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a paper feeder by a simple structure capable of providing stable and assured separability by a simple structure when a large volume of paper sheets is placed on a tray. SOLUTION: This paper feeder comprises the tray, side edge restricting members at the side edges of the tray, and a kick roller means for delivering an uppermost paper sheet by engaging therewith. The kick roller means is disposed at the generally center part of the sheet, and is lifted by a lifting shift means between a delivery position for engaging with the uppermost paper sheet and a standby position separated therefrom. A paper feed roller means and a separating means disposed oppositely to the paper feed roller means are installed forward of the tray in the paper feeding direction. A jump stand projecting a predetermined amount upward from a sheet loading surface to raise the center part of the sheet engaged with the kick roller means is formed on the tray. The jump stand feeds the center part of the sheets to the paper feed roller means with the sheet center part raised. The jump stand is made of a material having a large coefficient of friction with the sheet larger than the coefficient of friction between the sheets. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
