The invention relates to a method for data compression of a sequence of computer-generated video hologrammes, which are coded as complex hologramme values of a scene from image data with depth information, for display on a playback device with a spatial light modulator, generating a modulated wave field and reconstructing the desired three-dimensional scene, wherein changes in limited regions of the image content for coding only cause changes to the complex hologramme values in limited regions of the SLM, comprising the following steps: (S1) definition of a phase matrix with fixed phase values f(i,j), (S2) determining the visibility of the scene with relation to the position of an observer and the depth information for the image content or coding, wherein the scene is structured in visible object points, (S3) coding the scene, wherein said visible object points are based on the same defined phase value f(i,j), on a transformation of complex hologramme values, independent of the corresponding depth information and in each image of the sequence, such that in sequential images unchanged object points imply unchanged complex hologramme values and permit an efficient data compression of the sequence. |
