PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the service life of a switch. SOLUTION: A power converter 1 is equipped with input terminals 11a and 11b, a converter 11, an inverter 12, and a switch S. A power source 14 is connected between the input terminals 11a and 11b. The converter 11 has a full-wave rectifier and a voltage doubler rectifier and is connected between the input terminals 11a and 11b and the inverter 12. The switch S can select which of the full-wave rectifier and the voltage doubler rectifier, to connect to the circuit between the input terminals 11a and 11b and the inverter 12. A time is clocked, keeping the voltage doubler rectifier selected, since the voltage doubler rectifier is selected. Then, after the clocked time has passed a specified time, the switch S is immediately switched to the full-wave rectifier circuit. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
