PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating material eliminating device which can eliminate floating materials such as broken pieces floating on a melt, formed by self-destruction of a deposited plate formed on the surface of a cooling body by solidification and deposition, from a working area in a short time, and which can prevent that the eliminated floating materials again fall to the melt. SOLUTION: A scraping means 52 is displaced and driven over the dipping position and pulling position by a dipping/pulling driving means 54. When the scraping means 52 is located in the dipping position, the scraping means 52 is displaced and driven along the surface of the melt 34 by a scraping driving means 55. Thereby, the floating materials floating on the melt 34 can be eliminated in the direction that the scraping means 52 is displaced and driven along the surface of the melt 34. When the scraping means 52 is located in the pulling position, stuck materials sticking on the scraping means 52 can be removed from the scraping means 52 by a removing means 53.
