PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydroxy group-containing vinyl compound, with which a high reaction rate and a high reaction yield are achieved and formation of by-product is controlled in producing a hydroxy group-containing vinyl compound by reacting an acrylate compound with an aldehyde-based compound in the presence of a tertiary amine compound as a catalyst and water. SOLUTION: In producing a hydroxy group-containing vinyl compound by reacting an acrylate compound with an aldehyde-based compound in the presence of a tertiary amine and water, the method for producing a hydroxy group-containing vinyl compound comprises adding an inorganic salt of a metal of the group 1 or group 2 of the periodic table and carrying out the reaction.
