The method involves activating a cooling device during starting of a microwave oven. The cooling device is switched-on only after starting the microwave generator at a pre-determined time. The cooling device is switched on based on the temperature within the area of thermally highly loaded and heat sensitive units during the starting of the microwave oven. The cooling device remains switched-on after completion of a cooking or heating operation during a lag cooling phase. An independent claim is also included for a baking oven.
