This invention provides a process for simply producing a nano-size EuSe crystal that could not have hitherto been produced without difficulties. An EuSe crystal having a particle diameter corresponding to heating conditions is produced by heating a Eu(III) complex represented by the following general formula. A mixture comprising a Eu(III) complex, a counter cation, and a solvent may also be heated. Since the particle diameter of the nano-size EuSe crystal can be regulated by regulating the heating conditions, the absorption wavelength of the EuSe crystal can easily be controlled. Further, photomagnetic responsive plastics utilizing high dispersibility of the EuSe crystal can easily be prepared and thus can be immediately applied, for example, to photoisolators.
