In a change speed gear for a motor vehicle wherein an engine flywheel 104 drives a main output through a main friction clutch 106, a direct-reduced planet gear 24 and a main gear 20, a power-take-off 72, 74 is provided between the planet and main gears and is driven from the flywheel 104 through a second friction clutch 108 and sleeves 62, 68 interconnected by a drum 98. The sleeves 62, 68 and the drum 98 surround the planet gear 24 and its input and output shafts 48, 50. The planet gear comprises input and output suns 26, 28 meshing stepped planets 38, 40 on a carrier 30 which is clutched at 34 to the sun 26 for direct drive and is held by a brake 36 for reduced ratio. The clutch 34 and brake 36 are engaged by supplying pressure liquid to servos 52, 60. The main and power-take-off clutches 106, 108 are spring engaged and are disengaged by levers 122 which initially act through tie rods 128 to disengage the main clutch 106 and thereafter act through push-rods 130 to disengage the power-take-off clutch 108. A release arm 118 acts, against the bias of a spring 116, through a release bearing 114 on the levers 122. |
