In a constant velocity universal joint having drive-transmitting balls 17 located in intersecting inclined grooves 16, 18 in the opposed faces 14, 15 of two pairs of interengaging axial claws 12, 13 on joint heads 10, 11, each ball groove 16, 18 is formed in cross-section by two arcs of greater radius than the balls 17 to prevent ball contact at the groove root. The joint heads 10, 11, secured together by screwed spherical sleeves which surround outer spherical surfaces on the claws 12, 13, are supported against axial thrust by a central ball 19 and the whole assembly is housed within an oil-sealed casing formed by a metal cup and flexible gaiter.
