Mixture comprises mono-carboxyl functionalized dialkyl phosphonic acid salt (I) (98-100 wt.%), and a halogen (0-2 wt.%). Mixture comprises mono-carboxyl functionalized dialkyl phosphonic acid ester (I) of formula (R 2-CH(R 1)-C(R 3)(R 4)-P(=O)(OX)-C(R 6)(R 5)-CH(R 7)-C(=O)-OY 1>) (98-100 wt.%), and a halogen (0-2 wt.%). X : H, Li, Na, K or NH 4; Y 1>CH 3, C 2H 5, n-propyl, iso-propyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, tert.butyl, phenyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl, 2-hydroxypropyl, 3-hydroxypropyl, 4-hydroxybutyl, 2-hydroxybutyl, 6-hydroxy hexyl, allyl or glycerin; and R 1-R 7H, CH 3, C 2H 5, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, tert.butyl or phenyl. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for the preparation of the mixture comprising reacting hypophosphonic acid or salt (II) of formula (H-P(O)(OX)-H) with alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative (III) of formula ((R 6)(R 5)C=C(R 7)(COOZ)) in the presence of radical initiators, with another alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid (IIIa) of formula ((R 6)(R 5)C=C(R 7)(COOH)), or with an olefin compound (IV) of formula ((R 2)(R 1)C=C(R 3)(R 4)) to obtain (I) or its alkali salt, and esterifying the obtained mixture with an alcohol compound (V) of formula (Y 1>OH); and (2) use of the mixture for the preparation of flame protective agent in flame protective molded body or in flame protective polymer- molded bodies, -films, -filaments and -fibers. In formula (II):X = H, Na, K or NH 4. In formula (III): Z : 1-18C-alkyl or 6-18C-aryl.
