A method and associated apparatus for treating waste water from an oil or gas production, exploration or recovery process is described. Water is received in a vessel 14, which may be an open vessel having through-flow of fluid via pumps 18, and oxidation apparatus 16 oxidises hydrocarbon compounds contained in the water. The oxidation apparatus is configured to oxidise at least one of following compounds: benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene, methanol, glycol and ethanol. A degassing tower 15, oxygen concentrator such as a venturi 24, and oil and water separator (not shown) may also be provided. Enzymes, added via an enzyme pump 28, may also be used to catalyse the oxidation process. |
