A vehicle navigation system and a navigation method for displaying a map using the same are provided to enhance user convenience by automatically recovering an original screen from an abnormal screen due to a miss operation. A GPS(Global Positioning System) information receiver(10) receives information from plural satellites. A current position estimating unit(20) receives information from the GPS information receiver and calculates driving information such as current position information and driving information. A system controller(30) receives information from the current position estimating unit and controls electrical components therein. A map information storing unit(40) includes map information and delivers information to the system controller. An input unit(50), which is used for inputting commands, delivers the commands to the system controller. A driving speed input unit(60) delivers a current speed to the system controller. An outputting unit(70) displays scaled map information or application functions under control of the system controller. A display determining unit(80) displays determined screen information to be displayed based on speed information from the driving speed input unit and time information from a time measuring unit(90) under control of the system controller. The time measuring unit measures a time interval while no displaying a driving guide screen under control of the system controller.
