A projection apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to enhance the image quality displayed on a screen and increase an optical efficiency. A projection apparatus includes a light source part(11) to transmit light. A plurality of display devices(31,32) include diamond-shaped pixels and receive the light from the light source part(11) to realize an image. A projection system(500) expands and projects images realized through the display devices such that the images are displayed as an image. The light source part transmits light by employing different light paths according to the display devices. Images corresponding to diamond-shaped pixels output from the display devices cross each other and are combined with each other so that the images are displayed on one image frame.
