A method for operating a multimedia fie providing server and the multimedia file providing server applying the same are provided to enable a user to conveniently use multimedia files by enabling the user to play a plurality of multimedia contents selectively with one multimedia file combining the plurality of multimedia files. A multimedia file database(710) stores the third multimedia file combining the first multimedia file and more than one second multimedia file corresponding to the different type of contents of the first multimedia file by matching with ID information. A query receiver(720) receives a query requesting the third multimedia file corresponding to the ID information from a client terminal. A multimedia file manager(730) reads the third multimedia file corresponding to the ID information by referring to the multimedia file database. A multimedia file transmitter(740) transmits the third multimedia file for enabling the user to selectively play the contents of the first and second multimedia file with the third multimedia file to the client terminal.
