1,172,568. Making bearings; welding by fusion; breaking. W. SCHAEFFLER, and G. SCHAEFFLER, [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER OHG]. 1 March, 1967 [1 April, 1966], No. 9739/67. Headings B3A, B3E and B3R. [Also in Division F2] A roller bearing comprises inner and outer races 1, 2 with flanged ends 4, 5, one end being secured to its race by high energy beam-welding. In one method an integral race has one end flange split from it, and after assembly of the bearing the end flange is welded back on by an electron beam. The weld seam opens into a recess 7 to avoid deformation of the roller track. Weld seam 6 is radial or may be axial or otherwise inclined to the radial direction. Multi-row bearings may be produced.
