1,107,178. Timing devices for fuel injection pumps. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. March 7, 1967, No. 10595/67. Heading F1A. A fuel injection pump timing drive comprises a gear 14 on the engine crank-shaft driving a gear 12 on the engine cam-shaft, drive from gear 12 to a gear 16 on the pump drive shaft being transmitted through centrifugal weights 20 and an intermediate gear 18 which rotates freely on cam-shaft 13 and engages pump gear 16 through oblique or helical teeth 19. Gear 18 is axially movable on shaft 13 and, due to oblique or helical teeth 19, is forced axially against weights 20 by increasing torque to provide a damping action. Friction linings may be provided on the engaging faces 21 of gears 18 and 12. Alternatively, gear 18 may directly engage gear 12 through surfaces 21a, without surfaces 21 contacting the weights 20. Friction linings or rings may be provided on surfaces 21a. Gear 18 and weights 20 may alternatively be mounted co-axially with gear 16. |
