A tractor power take-off shaft 20 is selectively driven at high and low speeds by two gears 12, 14 journalled on the shaft and selectively clutched thereto by axial movement of the shaft. The shaft 20, as `shown, is held right against the bias of a spring 66 by a projection 64 on a take-off adapter 58 detachably-secured to a sleeve 26 rotatably mounted in a housing 10 and splined to the shaft 20. As shown, clutch teeth 76 on the shaft 20 engage complementary teeth 78 on the hub of the gear 12 for low-speed drive. When the adapter 58 is replaced by one without the projection 64 (Fig. 2, not shown) the spring 66 moves the shaft 20 left to disengage the clutch teeth 76, 78 and engage clutch teeth 72 on the shaft with .teeth 74 on the gear 14 for high-speed drive. The power take-off shaft 20 comprises parts 22, 24 having adjacent splined ends 52, 54 connected by an axially slidable clutch sleeve 56. The other end of the part 22 is journalled within a second singlespeed power take-off shaft 30 selectively clutched at 82, 84 to the gear 14. |
