An asbestos-free slate composition is provided to obtain a slate used for constructing a roof or wall surface, having excellent strength, absorptivity and heat insulation property, being safe to the human body and showing various colors. An asbestos-free slate composition comprises: (a) 45-50 parts by weight of magnesium oxide(MgO); 19-23 parts by weight of magnesium chloride(MgCl2); (c) 8-12 parts by weight of magnesium silicate(MgSiO3); (d) 1-3 parts by weight of sulfuric acid(H2SO4); (e) 11-15 parts by weight of quartz sand; (f) 5-7 parts by weight of other additives; and (g) glass fiber web. Components (a) to (e) are mixed, the mixture is extruded so that it is attached to both surfaces of the glass fiber web, and the extruded produce is molded through a mold under pressure, followed by cutting and curing.
