A portable computer applying EVDO module and a controlling method thereof are provided to enable a user to use the wireless Internet irrespective of a place by applying the EVDO module to the portable computer and controlling the portable computer with the EVDO module. A wireless communication module performs a function by changing a system-on state into a standby/normal state. An embedded controller(40) transmits and receives a signal perform for turning on/off the wireless communication module and the signal received from the wireless communication module. A CPU(10) controls mode switching of the wireless communication module according to the signal received from the embedded controller or a standby command signal. A switch supplies power of a PSU(Power Supply Unit) to the CPU and the wireless communication module by a control operation of the CPU. The wireless communication module uses the EVDO module(20). The PSU includes a V5A terminal supplying the power in the standard mode and a V5S terminal cutting off the power in a standby mode of an MS(Microsoft-Windows) mode.
