A pest control system comprising the combination of a trough (12) and a cover (14) for the trough, spaced above the trough, in use to protect the pest repellent (15) within the trough from incident rain and/or sprayed on water. The combined trough (12) and cover 14) is to encompass one or more botanical items (11). The cover (14) and trough (12) are fixedly attached to one another by a wall (20) upstanding from an elongate lip (18a) forming one side of the trough (12), the cover (14) being mounted at the top of the wall (20) which is to be in use closer to the botanical item(s) (11) to be protected than an opposite elongate lip ) 18b) of the trough (12). The pest repellent (15) in use placed in the trough (12) is a chemical composition which comprises from 45 to 50 % soda, 45 to 50 % soda ash and 0 to 10 % salt (sodium chloride). |
