Articles are moulded from fibre or wood chips &c., containing a binder, in a mould 1 heated by an element 2 and having a central projection 4 which forms a passage through the moulded article. A bore 8 extending through the projection has a conical outlet 9 which receives the radially grooved end 12 of a mandrel 11 when a cylinder 5 containing a charge of moulding material is raised into contact with the mould. The charge is forced into the mould by a piston 7, and gas or vapour evolved during moulding escapes through the bore 8 and via the grooved end of the mandrel. A reciprocable sleeve 13 pushes the moulded article from the mould. |
