A system and a method for providing an information service for symbols, special signs, and characters are provided to extract image data and information for the image data from an image database by extracting brightness or color coordinate values from the image data capturing the symbols, the special signs, and the characters printed on prints. An imaging device(100) generates the image data by capturing the symbols, the special signs, and the characters printed on the prints. A wired/wireless Internet terminal(200) corrects the symbols, the special signs, and the characters stored in the image data to a horizontal line, subdivides the corrected the symbols, special signs, and characters into a plurality of X/Y coordinates, and collects the brightness or color coordinate value of each X/Y coordinate. A search server(300) receives the collected brightness or color coordinate values from the Internet terminal, and extracts the image data corresponding to the received brightness or color coordinate values, and the information for the image data. A user client(400) receives and displays the extracted image data and information.
