An apparatus and a method for providing personally-customized local information by using digital broadcasting are provided to control the provision of unnecessary information by tracing a position of a digital broadcasting receiving device and providing information when the position of the digital broadcasting receiving device is included in a specific area. A setup unit(440) sets a certain area. A broadcasting receiving unit(420) receives a digital broadcasting signal. A control unit(450) extracts area information included in the digital broadcasting signal, traces a position of a local information providing device, and compares the set area with the extracted area. When the set area is identical to the extracted area, the control unit(450) compares the extracted area with the traced position. If the traced position is included in the extracted area, a display unit(460) displays contents of the digital broadcasting signal by the control of the control unit(450).
