BACKLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

A backlight assembly and a display device having the same are provided to omit a diffusion plate for supporting an optical unit, thereby reducing the weight and thickness of the display device. First and second lamps(11,15) are arranged adjacently. An optical unit(30) is arranged at the upper portion of the first and second lamps. A support(50) includes a bottom member(51) arranged at the lower portion of the first and second lamps. A support member(53) is protruded between the first and second lamps and supports the optical unit. The support also includes a light reflection layer for reflecting the light beam emitted from the first and second lamps. The support is extended along the longitudinal direction of the first and second lamps. The support includes the first surface extended from the bottom member arranged at the lower portion of the first lamp and contacted with the optical unit. The second surface is extended from the bottom member arranged at the lower portion of the second lamp, contacted with the optical unit and connected with the first surface.
