[Class 39 (ii).] The pinch-making machine described in the parent Specification is modified by replacing the tiltable bridge-member which holds a die for guiding the leading-in wires by a jig which can be interchangeably inserted between resilient grippers and, before insertion, is charged with leading-in wires and the like. The jig 12, Figs. 2 and 3, is clamped between a pair of arms 3, 31, which are pivoted on two vertical rods 2 and are drawn together by a spring 4, the outer ends of the arms being bent downwardly and outwardly and provided with angle-pieces 9, 9<1>. The angle-piece 9 is provided with a wedge-shaped groove to receive a corresponding edge of the die 12, and the anglepiece 9<1> has an inwardly directed pointed portion which engages within a conical recess on the other edge of the die. In the example the die is provided with eleven vertical channels, four of which receive leading-in wires 15, the remainder being occupied by shorter supporting wires 16. The wires 15, 16 are supported, and their correct length adjusted, by a horizontal plate 19 mounted adjustably on a vertical pin 17 on the bottom edge of the die and secured by a screw 18. A horizontal fork 25 mounted on the top of a vertical arm 23 extending from a horizontal shank 22 secured by screws on the front surface of the die 12 serves to support the upper ends of the leading-in wires, which are bent downwardly to lie within the fork so that they are out of the way during the operation of sealing the wires to the foot tube. The foot tube 26 is clamped between a pair of arms 28 pivoted on the rods 2 and drawn together by a spring 29, Fig. 3, the extremities of the arms 28 being disposed between the angle-pieces 9, 9<1> of the jaws 3, 31, so that when the push-rod 32 is raised vertically between the arms 28 it moves them apart and consequently opens the arms 3, 31 also. An exhausting tube 7 is held by a pair of arms 5, 51 pivoted upon the rods 2 and drawn together by a spring 6. |
