A system and a method for setting a communication path of a terminal for remote meter reading are provided to automatically form a meter reading tree by measuring the intensity of received signals of an unavailable terminal and a terminal with an unstable communication state, and thus reducing the time and manpower. A method for setting a communication path of a terminal for remote meter reading comprises the steps of: analyzing the receiving signal strength indicator of correspondent terminals(110~160) existing within an available range of a concentrator(100) and storing the analyzed result in the concentrator; requiring the terminals to transmit ID(Identification) numbers and receiving signal strength indicator data of the other terminals; receiving the ID numbers and receiving signal strength indicator data of the other terminals from the terminal and storing the received data in the concentrator; setting a path by comparing the data received from the terminal and the receiving signal strength indicator of the other terminals stored in a memory of the concentrator and then arranging the terminals in order while disposing the terminal with highest receive signal strength indicator at first; changing setting of each terminal by transmitting the set path information to each terminal; and performing remote meter reading by transmitting the data to a remote meter reading server.
