A black stretch apparatus and a method therefor are provided to perform black stretch control to be adaptive to offset adjustment. A black stretch unit(110) performs the black stretch of an image signal of the maximum value or less in response to a black stretch tilt value between the minimum value and the maximum value of a black stretch control range. An offset adjusting unit(120) adjusts an offset of the image signal whose black level is stretched in the black stretch unit(110). An output unit(130) exactly outputs an image signal having a plus sign for the image signal of the minimum value or less and outputs an image signal having a minus sign as a zero value in the image signal adjusted in the offset adjusting unit(120).
