An organic EL element comprising a pair of electrodes and, arranged between them, an electroluminous medium comprising (A) a mono- to tetra- styryl derivative containing an amine moiety and (B) an anthracene derivative having a specific structure; and an electroluminous medium comprising above (A) and (B) components. The organic EL element is excellent in thermal resistance, has a long life, and can yield a blue luminescence with high efficiency. The electroluminous medium can be suitably used for manufacturing this organic EL element.
