A bearing 18 is resiliently supported in a mounting having a split inner member 15 with radially-directed lips 19 which axially retain the bearing, and having rubber &c. member 12 mounted between the inner member 15 and an outer member or housing 10. In an embodiment, the rubber member 12 is formed as a thin outer ring 13 having four integral, radially inwardly-directed spoke-like portions 14 which support the inner member 15, the latter being made up of four part-annular members 16, each of which is bonded to one of the portions 14. Annular dust shields 28 for the bearing are clamped between the outer race and the members 16. The housing 10 has holes 11 therein so that it can be mounted to a vehicle. On assembly, the bearing 18 is forced between the members 16, thus compressing the rubber member 12. In a modification, the member 12 may be a complete annulus with the portions 14 thickened; and two, three, four or more part-annular members 16 may be provided. In other embodiments, the housing is bonded to the member 12; buffering portions 22, 23, Fig. 3, are formed in the member 12, notches 33, Fig. 6, are formed in the lips 19 to facilitate assembly; the member 12 has recesses 43, Fig. 9, therein or is a one-piece interrupted ring, the inner member 15 also being formed as a one-piece interrupted ring; the member 12 may have axial slots instead of the spokes, and may have recesses 56, Fig. 12, in its side-walls; and the lips 19 may be formed to receive a wire 59, Fig. 14, and thus bind the members 16 of the inner member 15 together. |
