An insert earphone (100) comprises a housing (130) and at least one transducer (118) that is located in the housing (130). The transducer (118) is adapted to receive electrical energy and to responsively convert the electrical energy into acoustic energy for presentation to an eardrum (192) of a user. The transducer (118) is positioned within the housing (130) so as to be in close proximity to the eardrum (192) of the user when the housing (130) is inserted into the ear canal (190). At least one coupling member (182) is coupled to the housing (130). The at least one coupling member (182) is adapted to provide an acoustic seal within the ear canal (190) of the user.
