A mold clamping system is provided to minimize the amount of working fluid required for clamping mold, and improve space utilization. A mold clamping system includes a column(140) movable in forward and backward directions; and a mold clamping piston(150) coupled to or separated from the column. A plurality of column teeth(141) are formed on a surface of the column in an axial direction of the column. The space formed between the column teeth is defined as a joint groove(142). The mold clamping piston has a center opening(157) for allowing the penetration and the movement of the column. A joint teeth mounting groove(151) is formed into a ring shape along a circumference of the center opening, and a plurality of joint teeth are mounted in the joint teeth mounting groove. A plurality of joint teeth guide grooves(154) are formed on an inner surface of the mold clamping piston, and joint teeth guide members(153) are positioned in the respective joint teeth guide grooves. The joint teeth guide members are connected to the respective joint teeth such that the joint teeth move in a central direction or a radial direction of the mold clamping piston when the joint teeth guide members move within the joint guide grooves, to thereby couple the joint teeth and the column.
