Disclosed is a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and/or a salt thereof having an average molecular weight of 5,000-20,000. In the molecular weight distribution of the low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and/or a salt thereof, the ratio of components having a molecular weight of 10,000 or less is not less than 40% by weight and the ratio of components having a molecular weight of 50,000 or more is not more than 5% by weight.
